ABOUT THE BOOK Seeing with Hands is a result of a unique experiment and extensive research by the author Jinan K B and his Foundation. It is based on research on how children learn the real world through the process of drawing. This is in continuation of his exploration of how children create knowledge which he has been pursuing for more than 3 decades. This book challenges our notion of drawing. It redefines drawing and establishes drawing as means to observe and make sense of the real world. It also establishes the necessity of understanding drawing in continuation with children's actual experiences, the kind of toys and play they create to revisit these experiences. This book is bound to lead to a new way of being with children, respecting their autonomy and their innate ability to develop their cognitive system. This will enable adults- parents, teachers, and all involved in education- to reflect ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jinan K. B. Jinan believes, the cognitive right as the most fundamental right which modernity-society and school-brutally takes away right from childhood. He considers himself to be someone who was able to recover from the damage of schooling and modernity when he got an opportunity to be with indigenous people. His experience with the illiterate artisans helped him to understand the process of creation of life-sustaining knowledge, its holistic nature and also how children learn autonomously. He is engaged in an ongoing research on the true nature of learning-why, what and how. He has been working on natural learning, children and cognitive damages inflicted by Modernity and Modern Schooling for almost three decades now. Currently, Jinan is involved in enabling people to explore and experientially recover their natural cognitive system damaged by schooling. He aims to sensitize adults to provide a truly conducive environment for their children. He has co-founded Existential Knowledge Foundation, Thanima, Being Academy, and Initiating Inquiry.
